What tasks do you perform and how often

I always wonder what types of tasks do you perform and how often. If you manage a whole network do you login regularly or only when RMM shows some error.
What do you check on WorkStations and Servers?

We use our RMM tools to manage just about everything. The only time we log in is when there is a monitor alert that isn’t auto fixed, a user reported issue or for our bi-annual “cleanups”.

We perform a lot of checks with our monitors, some of them being:

-Memory utilization
-Patches and vulnerabilities
-Disk Space
-Drive read/write times
-Processor performance
-Make sure all services are running
-Antivirus is up to date and has run a scan in the last 24 hours
-Event log for any critical errors
-Backups and any other scripts completed successfully.
-Detect non-whitelisted software

We also run scheduled maintenance scripts, like:

-Defragment the drive
-Run memory scan to detect bad memory or motherboard
-Hard disk check
-Disk cleanup (temp files)
-Exchange maintenance
-A/D maintenance

Every 6 months or so, we do manual cleanup, tasks such as:

-Overview of domain users, remove old or expired users
Mail archiving
-Go over file storage with client (remove useless documents, reorganize file structure)
-Re-document the network

Thank you Brad. Pretty good. I have few questions
- What do you use to Detect non-whitelisted software
- how do you run memory scan to detect bad memory or motherboard
- I don’t trust GFIMax HDD SMART Monitor as it has let me down twice. Do you use anything else to monitor HDD?

We use the GFI data extraction api and compare it to our database of approved software with a simple web script. We auto generate a ticket if something doesn’t add up.

For memory scans, we use this application http://hcidesign.com/memtest/
We schedule it and run it through GFI Max.

We use http://hddscan.com/ the same way we use memtest, through GFI.

SMART monitor does work, but it only detects SMART errors which aren’t always accurate.
